MEMORANDUM 2018-008

TO: License Plate Issuing Officials
SUBJECT: Redesigned License Plates for Issuance Beginning October 1, 2018

The truck and commercial vehicle license plates have been redesigned and will be available for issuance beginning October 1, 2018.   Also, the National Guard license plates have been redesigned and will be available for issuance beginning October 1, 2018.  Please be advised that the new National Guard series will have a design for active and retired members removing the need for decals.

A shipment of plates was ordered for each county based on the most current year registration report.  Please note, the designs will be valid for five (5) years and any additional bulk orders may be placed using Alabama Inventory Management System (AIMS) beginning October 1, 2018. Also, National Guard personalized license plates featuring the new designs may be ordered on the Plate Reservation and Ordering System (PROS) beginning October 1, 2018.  At that time, please remember to remove all license plates with the old designs from your shelves and retain them for audit purposes.

The tag numbering schemes for the license plates may be found on the Motor Vehicle Division website at https://revenue.alabama.gov/motor-vehicle/ under “Reference & Statistics” then “Registration File Information”.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the Motor Vehicle Division at 334-242-9000.
