Deputy Commissioner of Revenue
The Deputy Commissioner of Revenue’s role includes a myriad of duties and activities which are positioned to bring to fruition the plans and goals of the Commissioner of Revenue. These activities include, but are not limited to: the development and communication of major tax policies; the creation and implementation of actions which increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Revenue Department; liaison functions with the Governor and governor’s staff; and interactions with various legislators, business groups, and professional associations.
Brenda R. Coone began her career with the Alabama Department of Revenue in 1988. She was appointed Deputy Commissioner for the Alabama Department of Revenue effective November 16, 2015. Brenda is responsible for overseeing the Property Tax, Information Technology, Business & License Tax, and Processing Divisions as well as the Entity Registration Unit in the department.
Prior to this appointment, Brenda served for approximately ten years as the Director of the Motor Vehicle Division. She was responsible for administering the motor vehicle title, registration, and mandatory liability insurance laws. Additionally, she administered the dealer licensing law, the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and International Registration Plan (IRP).
Brenda earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Alabama State University and a Master of Science degree in Human Resources Management from Troy State University in Montgomery.
