private passenger automobiles, pickup trucks, motorcycles, pleasure motor vehicles (i.e., recreational vehicles) not exceeding 12,000 pounds gross vehicle weight

Required Documents

Retired members must provide a proper United States Uniformed Services ID card and an NGB Form 22 or Notice of Eligibility for Retired Pay at Age 60.  When the registrant cannot provide a DD214 or NGB form 22, the DD form 2,  Retired Member ID card, can be provided. In the event an active guard member is deployed outside Alabama, the proof document shall be the most recent copy of the leave and earning statement or mobilization orders and the military identification card of the spouse/dependent with power of attorney to obtain the license plate on the guard member’s behalf.

The Application for Disability Access Parking Privileges must be provided to obtain the disability access license plate.

The surviving spouse of a veteran fitting this criteria may not obtain the plate.

The surviving spouse of a veteran fitting this criteria may not retain the plate.

 

Registration Fees:

The registrant is exempt from the registration fee for the first plate but must pay ad valorem taxes.

Additional Fees:

  • All applicable registration fees and ad valorem taxes must be remitted for any additional plates issued.
  • National Guard members are not required to obtain the National Guard distinctive license plate in order to claim the registration fee exemption.
  • Additional fees: $50.00 annually for personalized.
  • The net proceeds of the $50 are distributed to the National Guard Foundation for furtherance of its program and purposes.

Note: the personalized plate will display up to 7 characters whereas the pre-numbered plate will display a max. of 6 characters.
