A motor vehicle dealer, wholesaler, or rebuilder who has a current dealer license as required by Sections 40-12-51, 40-12-54, 40-12-169 or 40-12-62 along with Section 40-12-391 dealer regulatory license may purchase up to a maximum combined total of ten (10) dealer transit and/or dealer transit motorcycle plates.

Dealers must present the Act 539 regulatory license and Section 51, 169 or 62 license to the licensing official before dealer plates can be issued. Motor vehicle wholesalers and rebuilders must present the Act 539 regulatory license and Section 54 license. If the dealer only sells trailers, a Section 169 license and Act 539 regulatory license must be presented. If the dealer only sells motorcycles, a Section 62 license and Act 539 regulatory license must be presented.

License plate design changes annually.

Plates in this category are not assigned to a specific vehicle; therefore, the plates may be moved among vehicles in the dealer’s or wholesaler’s inventory. For rebuilders, the plates may be transferred among vehicles being rebuilt or reconditioned to move vehicles to and from repair points as necessary to complete the restoration or to move vehicles as permitted by the department for inspection purposes.

Fees

  • Registration fees are distributed in accordance with the provisions of Sections 40-12-269, 40-12-270 and 40-12-274.
  • Registration fees are $26.00 per plate.
  • No additional fees.
