All residents of Alabama who are vehicle owners and members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. may purchase license plates in this category.

Registrants desiring to purchase a license plate in this category must present to the license plate issuing official a membership card distributed by the sorority denoting the individual’s membership in the sorority. Registrants may provide one of the following membership cards issued by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.:

  • Chapter Member non-expired
  • General Member (Boule’) non-expired
  • Life Member (there is no expiration date)

The plates may be personalized.

The plates are not transferable between vehicle owners.

This plate may be displayed upon the following types of vehicles:

  • private passenger automobiles
  • pickup trucks
  • motorcycles
  • pleasure motor vehicles (i.e., recreational vehicles)

The license plate design changes every five (5) years.


Fees are paid annually.

  • Registration: $23.00- $890.00 depending on the type of vehicle being registered
  • Additional fees: $50.00 for pre-numbered or personalized plate
  • $5.00 when metal plate is issued
  • The net proceeds are distributed to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to provide scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate members of the sorority within the State of Alabama.
