All residents of Alabama who hold valid amateur radio or citizen’s band radio licenses issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) or the Civil Air Patrol may purchase license plates in this category.

The registrant must present proof of ownership of the amateur radio or citizen’s band radio license prior to purchasing this plate.

Instead of being personalized, the plates are inscribed with the call letters assigned to the registrant by the FCC. Please note that the letter “O” and the number “Ø” will both print as “0” on the license plate.

Personalized license plates in this category are transferable, at the option of the transferor, to the transferor’s spouse or child upon payment of the transfer fees.

This plate may be displayed upon the following types of vehicles:

  • private passenger automobiles
  • pickup trucks
  • pleasure motor vehicles (i.e., recreational vehicles)

The license plate design changes every five (5) years.

  • Registration: $23.00- $890.00 depending on the type of vehicle being registered
  • Additional fees:
    • $3.00 (FCC licensees)
    • $1.00 (Civil Air Patrol licensees) annually
    • $5.00 when metal plate is issued
    • The net proceeds of the $3 or $1 fee are distributed to base in accordance with the provisions of Sections 40-12-269and 40-12-270, Code of Alabama 1975. The net proceeds of the $5 shall be distributed to the Department of Revenue.
