All residents of Alabama who are active, retired, or honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps may purchase license plates in this category.

Required Documentation

One of the following documents must be presented to the license plate issuing official by the registrant prior to purchasing this plate:

  • Military ID
  • Leave and Earnings Statement
  • DD214

The Application for Disability Access Parking Privileges must be provided to obtain the disability access license plate.

The plates may not be personalized.

The distinctive license plate follows the owner and is not transferable.

This plate may be displayed upon the following types of vehicles:

  • private passenger automobiles
  • pickup trucks
  • motorcycles
  • pleasure motor vehicles (i.e., recreational vehicles)

The license plate design changes every five (5) years.

The surviving spouse of a veteran fitting this criteria may not obtain the plate.

The surviving spouse of a veteran fitting this criteria may not retain the plate.

There is no limit to the number of plates the registrant may obtain.

Individual plates are ordered On Demand through the Plate Reservation and Ordering System (PROS).

Fees

  • Registration: $15.00 to $890.00 depending on the type of vehicle registered.
  • Additional fees:
    • $3.00 for active Marines when metal plate issued
    • $25.00 annually for retired/honorably discharged Marines
  • The net proceeds of the $3 and $25 are distributed to the Department of Alabama Marine Corps League.
