All residents of Alabama who are farmers as defined in Section 40-12-240 and owners of trucks (to include pickup trucks) and truck tractors to be registered with a “Farm” license plate may purchase license plates in this category.

The plates may not be personalized.

Plates in this category are not transferable.

This plate may be displayed upon trucks and truck tractors owned by farmers and used to transport farm products or the personal property of the farmer for use on his or her farm.

The license plate design changes every five (5) years.


Registration fees are distributed in accordance with the provisions of Section 40-12-269.

  • Registration: $30.00- $250.00 depending on the declared gross vehicle weight of the vehicle being registered

* A farmer shall be entitled to pay this reduced annual license tax and registration fee for only four (4) truck tractors; for each additional truck tractor the annual license tax and registration fee shall be paid based on the gross vehicle weight in pounds. See Code Section 40-12-248 for the weight and fee schedules.
